Tuning Out the News

My Thoughts for Today:
I don't watch the news. Ask me about a major world event and I may be clueless. It's on purpose. I used to feel guilty for this until someone told me something that made a whole lot of sense. They said, "when God made the world there was no news, phones, newspapers, etc. In the beginning people only knew about those things they regularly encountered. We were never meant to hold the problems of the world." One way I protect myself from getting too anxious or stressed is to give myself permission to tune out.
By tuning out of the world's problems I can be present for myself and those I love. God's got the world in His hands anyway- didn't we all learn that in preschool?
I'm not knocking any of you who love following world events. I'll commend anyone who decides to tackle the world's problems. Personally, God didn't design me for that and neither is He calling me to that. The only calling I hear personally is to love people where I'm at.
